LitterScout empowers youth and communities to take action against plastic pollution through hands-on cleanups, education, and sustainable practices. By fostering environmental stewardship and providing innovative tools, LitterScout inspires the next generation to protect our planet for the future.
Our free LitterScout App allows users to report, organize, and track litter cleanup efforts in real time, making it easier for individuals, and groups(classrooms) to plan cleanups, collect data, and measure impact. The app also serves as a digital toolkit—offering location mapping, litter statistics, educational tips, and volunteer coordination tools, making environmental action more accessible and data driven. This technology has decentralized cleanup efforts, helping scale the project beyond LitterScout’s home state and empowering communities worldwide to take ownership of their environment.
Alexa Skill, Sustainable Living, promote easy environmental learning with daily tips.
We recently introduced Mwalimu (“teacher” in Swahili), a low cost Raspberry Pi device designed to bring offline educational access to rural and underserved areas. Mwalimu works as a portable WiFi server, giving users access to 7 million+ Wikipedia articles, 60,000+ books, environmental lessons, medical encyclopedia, and more, all without needing internet access. It’s now being piloted in two communities to expand environmental education where digital tools are out of reach.
Litter Scout, a conservation non-profit 501(c)(3), over the last decade Litter Scout has made a significant impact on a global scale through direct litter reductions, environmental education, and advocacy.
Join the movement to clean up our communities and keep recyclables from the landfill & litter from
our waterways. It's estimated that 75% of the waste in our waterway come from land sources.
Every year, 11 million metric tons of plastics enter our oceans on top of the 200 million tons that
circulates in our marine environment. When marine life ingest litter, it can cause internal
and external wounds, blockage of the digestive system, decrease mobility, and toxicity.
